Which viewpoint do you agree with?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

In an era where social media’s influence is undeniable, advertising has taken center stage in the promotion of new products. Some individuals hold the view that advertisements merely fuel consumerism by encouraging the purchase of unnecessary items. Others, however, argue that advertisements serve a crucial role in informing us about novel products that could potentially enhance our lives. I align with the latter perspective, believing that advertisements are beneficial in raising awareness about new products.

The contention that advertisements merely lure customers into buying what they don’t need overlooks the fundamental rights of consumers and the obligations of businesses. The act of purchasing is at the discretion of the consumer, while promoting products is an inherent aspect of a company’s operations. Therefore, it is not the advertisements themselves that compel people to acquire superfluous items. Furthermore, when advertisements focus on introducing new products, they provide consumers with valuable information beforehand, not only regarding the quality and price but also about the product’s utility, thus significantly improving the shopping experience.

Advertisements are more than just commercial messages; they are informative channels that educate the public about the latest market introductions. Take, for instance, the convenience offered by quality grocery stores that now sell prepackaged lunches. These are particularly advantageous for busy parents who can provide their children with nutritious meals for school, saving time and effort. Without the reach of advertisements, many such practical innovations might remain unknown to potential consumers. Additionally, advertisements play a pivotal role in keeping the public informed about price fluctuations and sales, enabling everyone to make informed decisions based on the most current financial information.

In conclusion, the role of advertisements in modern society is multifaceted. They are not only tools for businesses to promote their products but also valuable sources of information for consumers. By keeping us apprised of the latest product developments and competitive pricing, advertisements indeed have the power to improve our lives by offering choices that align with our needs and budgets.
