SAMPLE 50

Many countries use fossil fuels such as coal or oil as the main sources of energy. However, in some countries, the use of alternative sources of energy is encouraged.

Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

alternative sources of fuels

Energy sources use has long been a heated debate. While some countries are still exploring and utilizing their fossil sources such as coal and oil, others are looking to alternative ones such as wind or wave energy. I fully support this trend given our current situation.

There are two primary reasons why alternative sources should be brought into use. Fossil sources are limited materials, meaning that one day they will inevitably be depleted. Whereas green energy sources such as water, wind and sun-derived energy are boundless/ limited. Countries that are now dependent on their fossil fuels would not avoid two scenarios: looking to buy energy from other countries which is so costly and politically dependent, or producing alternative sources themselves, which might be too late at the time. Therefore, the introduction of alternative sources will help a country, firstly, guarantee its continuous economic development with its boundless supply of energy for the increasing population, and secondly, decline any dependence on foreign countries.

Another great advantage of green and clean energy sources application is that it would help lessen the burning environmental problems of the world. As widely acknowledged, burning fossil fuels to get energy releases a vast amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This element is believed to trap the heat from the sun, causing global warming and leading to unfavourable effects such as extreme weather patterns or uprising water levels, resulting in dramatic flooding in many low regions of the world. All these adversities have posed an imminent threat to the very security of humans. Therefore, the use of clean energy would cut down the level of carbon dioxide, hence slowing down the process of global warming. Undoubtedly, this practice would not only be eco-friendly but also contribute to human well beings.

In conclusion, I am confident that the trend of green alternative energy sources should be given priority as it simultaneously improves the current situation of global warming and creates a more sustainable living environment for all humans.
